PM Modi, Finland's Orpo discuss strengthening AI and tech ties on summit sidelines

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo on the sidelines of the Global AI Impact Summit, with the agenda being India’s growing global engagement on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

The meeting came at a time when India is actively positioning itself as a key player in shaping global AI frameworks, while strengthening partnerships with technologically advanced nations like Finland.

During the meeting, Modi described the interaction positively, highlighting shared priorities in innovation and technology.

“Glad to meet Prime Minister Petteri Orpo of Finland. We discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in innovation, technology and other sectors,” Modi said in a post on X.

The talks reflected a mutual interest in expanding collaboration beyond traditional diplomacy, with both countries recognising artificial intelligence as a crucial area for future cooperation.

Finland, known for its strong digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystem, has emerged as a natural partner for India’s expanding tech ambitions. For India, such partnerships are key to accelerating its AI ecosystem, boosting research and fostering responsible technology development.

Key roads around Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, and central Delhi face diversions, with heavy security and regulated vehicle movement. Commuters have been advised to avoid affected routes, use public transport, and plan travel in advance.
