As his approval has hit an all-time low, 40 per cent of Americans consider Donald Trump to be ‘worst’ president in history, according to a Yahoo/YouGov survey.
In recent months, Trump's approval ratings have fallen to lower than ever before and disapproval rating has surged to an all-time high amid all-round backlash over the unaffordability crisis, violent crackdown on immigrants, and a string of excesses since assuming the office.
Overall, 53 per cent of Americans consider Trump to be one of the least successful presidents.
Only a third of Americans have a favourable view of Trump: 12 per cent consider him the best and 21 per cent consider him better than average.
Trump and his allies have been rattled lately from mounting backlash and falling ratings. They are afraid that they would lose the 2026 mid-term elections and lose the absolute control of Congress.
Ahead of the mid-terms, Trump has initiated course-correction to manage the backlash and appealed to his voters.
The Trump administration has announced an end to the brutal crackdown on immigrants in Minnesota, withdrawn the National Guard from several Democrat-run cities, and suggested that tariffs on steel and aluminium could soon be revised downward.
But none of these has yet translated into gains surveys after surveys have forecast a Republican defeat in the mid-terms.
Moreover, the Yahoo/YouGov survey found that Trump’s approval rating (38 per cent) is at an all-time low and disapproval rating (58 per cent) is higher than ever.

Trump has cast the mid-terms as an existential test and warned supporters that he would be impeached in case of a Republican defeat.
Trump has governed without a check on his powers on the back of a pliant Republican-held Congress. With a Democrat-controlled House or Senate, the Congressional oversight over the administration would be back and Trump’s extremist agenda would likely be derailed.
