Focus on technology, minerals and defence

The Prime Minister said the talks focused on cooperation across multiple sectors with shared goals and aspirations, adding that collaboration in technology and innovation would be significant not only for India and Brazil but also for the wider Global South.

He said the agreement on critical minerals and rare earths marks a major step towards building a resilient supply chain. He added that defence cooperation between the two countries is steadily expanding, describing it as a reflection of mutual trust and strategic alignment, and said both sides will continue to strengthen the win-win partnership.

Further highlighting the outcomes of the talks, he pointed to expanding defence cooperation as a sign of deepening strategic alignment and mutual confidence between the two countries.

Healthcare cooperation and Global South priorities

The Prime Minister said there is significant potential for collaboration in healthcare and pharmaceuticals. India, he said, will work to increase the supply of affordable, high-quality medicines to Brazil, while promoting Ayurveda and traditional medicine to support holistic healthcare approaches.

He added that as vibrant and influential democracies, India and Brazil will continue to work together to advance the priorities and aspirations of the Global South on the international stage.

Lula highlights shared strengths

President Lula underscored the importance of bilateral relations, saying the two countries are “not just the two biggest democracies of the Global South,” and described the partnership as “a meeting of the world’s pharmacy with the world’s barn, and a digital superpower with a renewable energy superpower”.

He added that both countries are mega-diverse societies and hubs of cultural industry, and that they share a commitment to multilateralism and peace. He said the invitation for the state visit, as well as to attend the AI Impact Summit, reflects the synchrony and mutual trust between the two nations.

Who are the Kurds, who could lead the next phase of Iran war?

Iran's Kurds, many in exile in Iraq, are preparing for possible cross-border operations against Iran with potential US backing amid ongoing US and Israeli strikes. All major Kurdish opposition groups have formed a coalition aiming to overthrow Iran's Islamic Republic and seek Kurdish self-determination. Kurds, a large ethnic group without a state, see the current conflict as a chance to advance their long-standing goal of an independent homeland despite past US betrayals.
