India has joined more than 100 countries and international organisations in condemnation of Israel’s recent expansionist moves in West Bank.

Earlier this month, Israel's cabinet approved the beginning of the land registration process in Area C of West Bank for the first time since Israel occupied the Palestinian territory in 1967. The Palestinian Authority (PA) called the measure the de facto annexation of West Bank.

“We strongly condemn unilateral Israeli decisions and measures aimed at expanding Israel’s unlawful presence in the West Bank. Such decisions are contrary to Israel’s obligations under international law and must be immediately reversed. We underline in this regard our strong opposition to any form of annexation,” the joint statement read.

Israel also passed another measure to expand Israeli control in Areas A and B of West Bank. Together, these were the biggest move towards annexation since Israel annexed East Jerusalem in 1980 after occupying Palestinian territories of West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem in 1967.

The signatories rejected attempts at altering demography of West Bank and character of Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.

More than 100 States and international organizations have joined the statement condemning Israel’s unilateral measures and rejecting annexation.

“Such measures violate international law, undermine the ongoing efforts for peace and stability in the region, run counter to the Comprehensive Plan, and jeopardise the prospect of reaching a peace agreement ending the conflict,” the statement read.

The signatories called for the creation of two democratic states —an independent and sovereign Palestine and Israel— under the two-state solution that live side by side in peace and security within their secure and recognised borders on the basis of the 1967 lines.

India has long supported the two-state solution that envisions the creation of two states —State of Israel for Jews and State of Palestine for Arabs— to resolve the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

For decades, India’s position has been consistent on Israeli settlements and outposts in West Bank. India has joined the majority of the international community to hold these settlements and outposts as illegal in the international law.

Even as India has supported the Palestinian self-determination under the framework of the two-state solution, India has rejected the usage of terrorist means and has consistently condemned acts of terrorism by groups like Hamas.

Who are the Kurds, who could lead the next phase of Iran war?

Iran's Kurds, many in exile in Iraq, are preparing for possible cross-border operations against Iran with potential US backing amid ongoing US and Israeli strikes. All major Kurdish opposition groups have formed a coalition aiming to overthrow Iran's Islamic Republic and seek Kurdish self-determination. Kurds, a large ethnic group without a state, see the current conflict as a chance to advance their long-standing goal of an independent homeland despite past US betrayals.
